"4.25⭐️ Loved this show and love Jean Smart! She brilliantly and convincingly portrays a wildly successful insult sort of comic a la Joan Rivers. Whenever an actor who’s not a standup plays a standup in a role it’s always just bad. Like really bad. But when Jean is on the stage she makes me believe.
Surprisingly I also like the relationship and chemistry with the Gen Z writing partner played by Hannah Einbinder. The generational stuff is done well, the differences are hilarious but respectful. They are in turn amused, maybe appalled and sometimes stupefied by each other, but they learn from each other too. It’s not insulting nor constantly thrown in our faces.
This show is loaded with pathos and drama but at its heart I’d say it’s a comedy. Biting but funny and never feels heavy. It’s more feel-good than that. I have to mention the rest of the cast is also pretty brilliant with a specific shout out to Megan Stalter who plays Kayla. She kills me!
Season 3 is supposedly coming in May and I’ll definitely be watching.

"I mean I definitely had some cast-based faith going in, but drama is generally not my first choice. I’ll watch em, but they have to be pretty good for me to continue to watch, much less recommend them. Yes there’s drama, but its pretty funny and surprising with the writing and story. I genuinely enjoyed this and I want more plz"
"Not funny but I really like Jean Smart in anything. Neither lead character has any appeal however and the writing and plot just aren’t any good. "
