"A little unsatisfying. I think this would have benefited from a longer series to round out the characters. It is an interesting limited series, but more backstory would make it better. I lived through the 80's and the skeezy atmosphere of NY is accurate. This is dark and you feel like you are struggling to even like the characters. The police officer, Ledroit, is the only character you really root for. Everyone else, including the kid, are selfish jerks. Perhaps a longer series could have given the opportunity for redemption for some of them. "
"🌟7/10🌟 A 6-part #dark #crime #mystery drama with Benedict Cumberbatch — Intriguing & very different — Probably NOT for everyone, but I was drawn in by its intense atmosphere and complex characters. The narrative was gripping and thought-provoking, and ALL of the acting was exceptional.

"I really don’t know what to think of this show. I don’t know if I like it or hate it. Everyone is creepy in this show except the police officer who is brilliant. Maybe that’s how New York was back then but the Mom the dad and that little brat kid too were all ridiculous. I liked the theme of it, portraying New York as horrible back in the day, how so many kids disappeared and never found but I wish they kept it to that rather than this weird family. "

"So little Gaby Hoffmann grew up! When did that happen?
I have read all the reviews, and I must say, I disagree with many of them. I'm not going to pick them apart, though. I'll just give my best try at giving my honest review.
First of all...Benedict. His performance was undeniably excellent. I swear that man can do anything.
The story takes place in NYC in the early '80s but it looked very '70s to me, which matters not a bit. A puppeteer (think Muppets) named Vincent and his wife, Cassie have a 9-year-old son named Edgar. Sadly, Vincent has.....issues. Both mental and substance issues. Edgar loves watching his dad work the puppets on his show, Good Day, Sunshine! (Think Sesame Street.) Edgar is an excellent artist and has been designing his very own puppet named Eric. This and that happen that causes different feeling which I won't spoil for you. Then Edgar goes missing. Vincent believes that if he makes Eric a reality and puts him on tv, Edgar will see, wherever he is, how much he is loved, and come back home. As Vincent seems to be having a complete breakdown, Eric becomes real to him. Eric is kind of his conscience as well as his bad side, coming together to mess with Vincent. Believe me, Eric is there for a reason. He IS necessary to Vincent's story.
At the same time as the missing Edgar storyline is going on, there are several other things going on. Another boy has been missing for 11 months. He's 14 and black and that part brings some racism to the story. There is LGBT+ stuff going on. Overwhelming homelessness living under the city. Corrupt cops. A nightclub that may or may not be a dirty business. It can get a bit dark at times but I personally didn't find it that bad. I've seen darker. I can understand if some find it pretty dark. I just didn't happen to think so.

"Just started this limited series and, so far, find it interesting. I always give a show one ep to wow me. I’m now halfway through ep two. The premise is intriguing (police & parents looking for missing child) and suspenseful. Many backstories told as well- parents, cops… Takes place in gritty 80’s New York City. Great performances by great cast (Benedict Cumberbatch & Gaby Hoffman among others). On Netflix."

"The mish mush of different storylines that do not benefit each other. The giant blue puppet stumping the streets adds nothing to the story. And why the show called by its name? 🤷♀️
Mediocre writing and acting, except of course Benedict Cumberbatch, who doesn’t seem to be capable of being mediocre. I watched till the end hoping for everything to come together, it never did. "
