"This is the best blind find I’ve ever had. Just finished season one of two. A unique, hard sci-fi, mystery, morality tale written by one of this generations best playwrights, Dennis Kelly. It’s 10 years old and was considered by a lot at the time as too violent, and rightfully so. Should have numerous trigger warnings, a gory, graphic school shooting to name just one. Lotta murderous scenes. Small budget but the direction sets a fantastic tone and vibe which elicits phenomenal performances from a murder’s row of British character actors. And they make you fall in love with each and every damaged one in the always beloved found family trope. But ultimately it’s about that old as time good vs evil/right vs wrong question. It will also break you down into tears if you make it to the all time great season one finale. Don’t confuse this with the 2020 American remake. Understand they couldn’t just copy it but they cheesed it up way too much to be good. "
"I definitely enjoyed this show. I have been asked which I liked more, this one or the US remake. That's a tough question for me to answer. I don't like to compare them against each other because I feel that takes away from the enjoyment factor. I try not to be thinking that I like how one version did something better than the other until after I've finished both. Then I will let myself compare the two.
I'm going to break my review down in two ways. First, I'll critique this show. Then I'll do a little comparing between the two.
This show is about a graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments and it's said to predict epidemics by deciphering the clues in its pictures. A group of Utopia fans are trying to get their hands on a supposed sequel to the graphic novel. A secret organization called The Network, is also wanting it and they will kill anyone who gets in their way...and innocent bystanders who do nothing wrong other than being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Unbeknownst to the comic book geeks, there is also a Jessica Hyde that The Network seeks as well. They've never heard of her but they're about to meet. Who is she, and what does she have to do with The Utopia Experiments and The Network? Is The Utopia Experiments accurate and who wrote it, anyway? Guess you'll have to watch and find out!
