Twentysomething Miep Gies didn't hesitate when her boss Otto Frank came to her and asked her to hide his family from the Nazis during World War II. For the next two years, Miep, her husband Jan, and the other helpers watched over the eight souls in hiding in the Secret Annex. And it was Miep who found Anne’s Diary and kept it safe so Otto, the only one of the eight who survived, could later share it with the world as one of the most powerful accounts of the Holocaust.

"I'll be the first to admit that I don't like watching (or reading) WWII related content. I won't get into the whys, just want to give filter to my lens. With only 8 episodes, the show starts before the war and ends after the war. The first episode was interesting but for me personally not enough to keep watching, but I was outnumbered by the history lovers in the room so onto episode 2. Better, and while I wasn't excited to continue, I was a lot more willing. The third episode is where I really got into the story line, and the deeper into the show I got, the more it felt like a completely different perspective than any I'd ever seen or heard. The last episode was by far my favorite, for that one alone it was worth watching. "
"THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Everyone should see this. I HIGHLY recommend. I completed this series last night and can't stop thinking about it. Of course it's so very horrific what so many people went through then. It's beyond comprehension. I can't imagine the stress. Miep (and others like her) were so incredibly brave. It's beyond words. The casting in this is just excellent. The ending of the last episode was a nice touch. Just watch it."
"A Small Light was devastating to watch as it features the Holocaust, such a tragic, shameful part of our history. Miep Gies and her husband, Jan, hide Jewish families, including Anne Frank and her family, behind a bookcase. Anne Frank, while stuck inside and limited by such a small space, writes a now famous, celebrated journal documenting her time in hiding. She has a way with words that stuns as she captures the everydayness of suffering amidst crisis. She also, like other members of her family, displays such bravery and strength to endure when it gets harder and harder by the day to stay sane and press on. Times are bleak and hardship seemingly never-ending and prolonged. Wartime shows are heartbreaking in that respect as they call to mind how pure survivalist instincts must kick in as people yearn to be freed from hateful discrimination under such a strict, dictatorship regime.
Hurt, struggle, and grieving become the norms worldwide, which deeply upsets our capacity to have any sense of hope. Yet people keep fighting to see a better day and rely on the ones that they trust, the ones that help and stand by with undying support. There remains a fervent wish inside of people to hopefully make it out to the other side and see that one small, flickering light at the end of the tunnel. "

"Currently on episode 2 and I'm already hooked. I love watching anything that has to do with the holocaust because I'm so intrigued. So far this show has had my heart smile, has had me anxious as heck & has me invested in certain characters already. If you can watch it, I suggest you do. "
