"This story was a wonderful adventurous ride! Sailing/pirate vibes at time. Arranged marriage. Strong enemies to lovers slow burn romance. Non-stop action. Assassins, spys, wars between nations. Spice level I’d say 2-3 out of 10. I personally didn’t think it was that explicit and it’s pretty minimal. But the rest of the story is so action packed that I didn’t mind the lack of spice. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a good adventure read!"

"I hesitated more than once on reading this, but it managed to keep my attention beyond the first few chapters where others failed. It’s actually a very interesting story. I kept having the song, One Tin Soldier, play in my head as I read it. Lara is a strong female character, which I liked. There’s enough unknowns to keep me reading and guessing. I liked how the story jumped between she and Aren’s points of view for the story telling. Also enjoyed the occasional witty banter. I never miss a budding romance either. I now need to read the next book to find out what happens next. Worth the read, for sure."

"2.50 star.<br/><br/>Not sure but I think the only thing I like about this book was the location and turbulent atmosphere. Weird right? The map was amazing, a cluster of islands and a bridge between two continents. Safe from enemies when the sea is doing it's worse. I loved the thunder and rain like a safety blanket over my head it made me want to sleep while I listened. The aspect made it perfect to read on a stormy day.<br/><br/>And then the story, interesting enough how goods are traded, how people survive the raiders. But then you drop the two protagonist in there with their cheesy dialog and it mucked up the clear water of the world. Lara however many times mentioned about her training was not well equipped. She was not even that much of a badass when she was hurling her guts up. I mean because who would think to train her in the decade she was trapped, to swim. She was bred to live on an island, which if I remember my lesson from elementary school are correct, surrounded by water. Looking back now I realized I couldn't connect with any of the characters so I didn't care who lived or died or care enough to read the next installment.<br/><br/>Everything was too convenient for me. Ithicanian's were adamant about Lara not seeing anything least she give them away. And in a few short weeks she had enough to destroy them. Then Lara heals a few people and they all trust her though it was painfully obvious why she was there. She is pretty good with a bow....Lara always has her marital daggers and they are sharp even though suppose to be blunt......she has a reason everytime caught sneaking........Lara always makes remarks about the gossip she hears of Aren, in which all are wrong.<br/><br/>Another bit that didn't make sense to me. Raiding boats came mostly one at a time picking around trying to find a spot into the bridge. Why wouldn't you send a whole fleet? Or spies on small craft to infiltrate. It was like the other countries where dashing their armies against the rocks one at a time. Not very strategic. Felt like a book filler or a way for Lara to show her marit.<br/><br/>Aren seemed OK, a good King though all of his decision seemed to have come from the coat tails of his father or mother. I had a good enough respect for him till he started messing around on snake island. He has a whole country, and honestly more than his own, depending on him and he wants to play with death.<br/><br/>The whole story was highly predictable to me as well. Ithicana was said so much that I fear I might repeat the name over and over in my sleep. Lauren Fortran and James Cronin did a nice job narrating until it came to speaking for the opposite sex. The stormy atmosphere and world building was lovely I just wish the dialog and plot could have kept up with it. But I won't be continuing the series."
