A dark, shocking, and unputdownable thriller debut about a mother and daughter—and the lengths to which a daughter will go to find independence.“Nobody wants to hear the truth from a liar.” For the first eighteen years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair, and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers and offering shoulders to cry on, but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold. Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar. After serving five years in prison, Patty gets out with nowhere to go and begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes. Patty insists all she wants is to reconcile their differences. She says she's forgiven Rose Gold for turning her in and testifying against her. But Rose Gold knows her mother. Patty Watts always settles a score. Unfortunately for Patty, Rose Gold is no longer her weak little darling... And she's waited such a long time for her mother to come home.

"Darling Rose Gold was one of my highly anticipated 2020 reads, and I enjoyed it! This was such an addicting read, and I had fun watching the manipulative games play out.

This book is on the bleaker side, and it deals with some heavy topics. If you're familiar with the story of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard, Darling Rose Gold will probably interest you.

The ending was a little too neat and far-fetched, but I liked the book as a whole. It was dramatic, and kept my attention the entire time. I'm interested in checking out whatever Stephanie Wrobel does next! Thank you to Berkley Pub for sending me a copy to review. This one will be out on 3/17.

CW - bullying, suicide, eating issues, child abuse, self-harm"

"“Grudge is a heavy thing to carry good thing we are extra strong”

Told from the POVS of mother and daughter, Patty and RoseGold. Patty is in prison due to negligent child abuse. RoseGold relieves the past of her life. She was a very sickly child and had major digestive issues which now as just an adult she is bony and her teeth are rotten. Patty is in prison for causing her daughter’s extreme conditions.

Now Patty is almost out of prison, what is RoseGold to do with her mother? She is her mothers child and revenge is a delicious treat."

"I love a good psychological thriller, and let me tell you - These bitches were truly ******* nuts. Being based on a true story makes it that much more riveting. It shocked me, and I loved every second of it!"

"For starters, this book is definitely more of a slow burn thriller, so heads up there.
Throughout the book, what's keeping your attention is figuring out what's going through each of the character's heads and how they've gone from point A to B and vice versa.
The more you read, the more you're bound to be enthralled in the character's actions. I really enjoyed it!
I especially recommend the audio book!"

"An unflinching examination of mother-daughter relationships, the devastating fallout of Münchausen syndrome by proxy, and the gray areas of human morality, Darling Rose Gold is a work which no reader is likely to forget. The plot is stunning, the prose is forthright, and even the most flawed characters are ultimately sympathetic. I, for one, hope that Stephanie Wrobel is just getting started."
