"John Gwynne writes another incredible and brutal story. If you loved his previous books with multiple POVs and a lot of realistic battle scenes, you'll enjoy this one as well. It's a blend of Norse mythology (specifically Ragnarok) with a hint of classic epics (Beowulf). Fair warning, it's descriptive in its violence but you'll be rewarded with a well crafted world and relatable characters."
"I’m reading book 2 immediately but pausing for enough time to review. If you’re in the mood for Norse mythology inspired fantasy, I suggest reading this book!
IMO I found this book to have strong female characters who were decently written, though Orka more than the other. I also enjoyed Varg’s (MMC) story of being a slave on the run.
The creatures in Shadow of the Gods were so interesting and quite honestly showed how deep the authors research went along with world building.
5/5 would recommend. "
"4.5 stars is more accurate, but I can't do that and I really wanted to continue right into the next book and got very into this so rounded up. Very slow beginning, but it got going somewhere around 1/3 to halfway and I really liked it. Loved Orka and was rooting for her the whole time--raining down the vengeance of a mother and wife. Similar for Uspa and Elvar by proximity. "
"This is amazing! Perfectly paced. Rich, vibrant and completely unique. I’m not a huge fantasy reader. Couldn’t finish Game of Thrones or Wheel of Time, but this grabbed me in a different way. "
