"Great writing. Characters aren't terribly likeable."

"4.5 stars! <br/>A slow burn with a lot of non-didactic world building, ending with a very exciting final 20% of the book. An interesting premise with complex characters that very much reads as the beginning of a trilogy that it is. Elements of Pratchett with touches of self-aware humour and the use of footnotes, but darker. While this is marketed YA, it’s very much enjoyable to adults. Would highly recommend to younger readers who are looking for something relatable and sophisticated, but still appropriate and without romance. There’s not enough YA books that truly respect youth’s intelligence like this one."

"I’m making my way through the shadow hunter books by Cassandra Clare. I’m currently finishing The Queen of Air and Darkness. It’s my 14th book in this universe. "

"I don't know. I find it hard to find a good read after I've read something from Jonathan Stroud. If you like this trilogy, I recommend the prequel "The Ring of Solomon." His series Lockwood and Co. was pretty entertaining as well."

"This book was well written, but I had the hardest time getting into it. I'd read some, have to return it, finally get it again but not be able to get into it again. Cool characters and magic and stuff, but I just wasn't into this one."
