"I decided to reread this one before starting book two, and I'm so glad I did! I think I liked it more the second time! I still agree with pretty much everything I wrote in my previous review: This is a debut novel, and that shows in pacing and some underdeveloped world building at times. Some readers might find it hard to get into, maybe even boring? Each section feels distinctly different from the others, so finding book one engaging doesn't mean you'll find book two intriguing. The whole book comes off as a really good (though rushed) coming of age story set in a fantasy word. I think fans of Gideon the Ninth will enjoy this book as the writing styles are very similar. I didn't find as many laugh out loud absurd lines, but there are a few fantastic moments of narration that did have me choking on my tea!"
