So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens. Through Kya's story, Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

"went into this read expecting a murder mystery thriller and left with a lot more than i bargained for in the best way possible!! to describe this novel as a coming of age story would be doing it a disservice. Where The Crawdads Sing is a stunning tale of growth, love, and appreciation for the natural world around us. when i finished this story i had a whole heart and a million more questions. days later and i still am thinking of Kya "
"Beautiful story, the movie was disappointing, didn’t capture the story as wonderfully as it was read/written."

"Such a great book. Had me turning pages every chance I got. I thought I knew who the killer was then I would change my mind. The book gave me fried green tomato vibes. I thought that Jumpin' killed chase at first since he was like a father figure to her. Then I thought maybe her brother felt he owed her a favor and came home and killed him for her since he knew how to cover up his tracks in the marsh too. Then I settled on Tate taking care of him since he still loved her and the necklace was missing. I was so mad when it looked like I was all the way at the end and it didn't look like the book was going to reveal her killer. Definitely wasn't expecting on the last two pages to find out who it was."
"I read this for school- not the deluxe version but whatever, I couldn’t find the one I read lol- anyways, it was a great book, super detailed and very interesting. I never got bored with it. I watched the movie when it came out a few years back, but the book was much better. Definitely deserves the 5 stars!! Great author and great book!!"
