Two lives. Two loves. One impossible choice. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reese’s Book Club Pick One Day in December . . . “I read The Two Lives of Lydia Bird in a single sitting. What a beautiful, emotional gift Josie Silver has given us.”—Jodi PicoultWritten with Josie Silver’s trademark warmth and wit, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird is a powerful and thrilling love story about the what-ifs that arise at life’s crossroads, and what happens when one woman is given a miraculous chance to answer them. Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’d been together for more than a decade and Lydia thought their love was indestructible. But she was wrong. On Lydia’s twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident. So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants is to hide indoors and sob until her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to try to live fully, happily, even without him. So, enlisting the help of his best friend, Jonah, and her sister, Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world, open to life—and perhaps even love—again. But then something inexplicable happens that gives her another chance at her old life with Freddie. A life where none of the tragic events of the past few months have happened. Lydia is pulled again and again through the doorway to her past, living two lives, impossibly, at once. But there’s an emotional toll to returning to a world where Freddie, alive, still owns her heart. Because there’s someone in her new life, her real life, who wants her to stay.

"3.2 - It was alright. It was less of a romance book than I thought it would be. It’s more of a slice-of-life than anything else. It shows someone coping with grief over loss of a boyfriend and learning about herself.

My biggest complaint was the abrupt starting and ending of chapters. Each chapter plunged into a new scene and setting with little warning and rarely didn’t continue from the last chapter. It was very jerky."
"Basic premise: what happens when the love of your life dies and you get prescribed sleeping pills that magically let you slide into an alternate reality where he is still alive and you are still together? Do you continue to live the life you have or live to sleep? A lot of reviews say this is a bit slow (this isn't an action packed novel, if that's what you are looking for look elsewhere), but I enjoyed it."
"Endless stars. I loved it so much. I don’t think I’ve ever cried from a book like I did this one (has a HEA, don’t worry). It’s past midnight and I just finished reading and I hope I have the ability to articulate why I believe Josie Silver is such a phenomenal writer.

Her profoundly beautiful writing. Lydia talks to us with so much poignancy and insightfulness about her situation. I giggled to myself when she said Jonah’s always been the word person, not her. Josie Silver’s writing style feels like the characters are talking to readers directly, trusting us with their inner thoughts and desires. Taking us on a heart wrenching journey with them. She uses first person in a really unique way, or it seems that way to me.

With all her books I find the characters to be so dimensional and vivid. The side characters are always strong and an important part of the story.

So much happens on these pages and it’s all written with such depth. Just read it!"
