"This is the fourth book out of five within the Heroes of Olympus series. Although this book literally took us to Tartarus, the realm of Hades, I feel like it didn’t hold my attention as well as the other books in the series. The storyline is good, the characters are who we know and love, but it just felt lacking to me. I enjoyed how much each character learned about each other and about themselves. All the characters had wonderful growth within this book that made the quest even possible. We learned about their pasts, their fears, I think that this book did a great job at making all seven of them heroes in their own rights and not just focusing of Percy being the hero. This book reintroduced alot of characters from the other books, which I loved for the storyline but keeping up with all of the different monsters was pressing me. It seemed less like a Roman vs. Greek book and really focused on the closing of the Doors of Death, which should be the main concern. I liked how the characters had their own tests, like Nico, Frank, even Annabeth, had to face fears and take charge. Normally they can sometimes be overshadowed by more confident characters. It got a little confusing because there were two separate quests going on basically. So as it flipped from group to group and person to person, it was sometimes hard trying to recollect what was happening when you left off. Percy and Annabeth are traveling the Underworld and Leo, Piper, Jason, Hazel, Frank, and Nico are traveling the ancient lands. So both groups were fighting monsters and making friends along the way, you just had to keep up with each storyline since they are happening simultaneously. The writing was great for this book, Rick Riordan does a really good job at pulling together a story, I think this was a really great book to prepare us for the final book in book 5!"
