"I liked the ending to this book a lot more than the beginning. I felt the beginning was slow but the end was jammed full of action and romance. Also I didn’t see the end coming AT ALL. We got a lot of much needed back story in Slade too so it’s all starting to come together "

Glow was… slow glowing (lol). Slade’s interesting backstory is unraveled, while side characters get more of the spotlight. Auren hardly gains control over herself 60% through, dragging her feet and the plot along with them. She went through so much, I get that, yet the pacing drastically slowed from the first 3 books making reading more tedious. A lot of this book felt like a filler episode in a TV show, which is okay - they deserved a second. However, one reason I knocked down a star is because I didn’t like Slade and Auren’s dynamic as much in this book.
My main gripe is that I don’t quite care for trauma sex. Don’t get me wrong, the spicy scenes between Slade and Auren are hot, but it’s really contradicting when, for example, Slade painfully divulges the story about the rip & how he shoulders the weight of dozens of people’s lives, only to have Auren on her knees in front of him 4 pages later. Ditto after they doinked in the cave and Auren was immediately afraid of herself again (the punishment part was awkward). It’s… icky, honestly. I got whiplash from the open and raw moments about their pain and empathizing with them, to straight raunch with Slade’s dirty talk; they’re just opposing vibes put too close together. Sex is used to segue out of acknowledging pain.
I wholly believe that Raven Kennedy’s writing style has improved since Gild, but there are instances where the dialogue is contradictory in tone. For example, when Auren poetically says a quote about how trauma connects us. I can see Kennedy taking the time to put together that quote & perfect it. But then the dialogue can switch back to millennial slang in an instance (“pretty much” & similar terminology is often used). The switch is cringe, and makes some lovely quotes feel out of character when most dialogue is very casual. Stick to one tone please. More whiplash. One less star.
With that said, this book is still great, and I am ready for Gold!"

"Could do without Gild, but I loved the 2nd and 3rd. Cured an ACOTAR hangover. I was so excited for this one after the end of the 3rd, but DNF this one at about 40%. The spice wasn't satisfying anymore, the characters didn't seem to grow or really do anything constructive and avoided the rest of the world. I was bored, the spark of romance wasn't there, the characters felt whiny in their struggles, and too many POVs I didn't need. I'm happy with pretending it's a trilogy and loving it "

"The ending left to much open . Seems like could be more ."

"This book was about auren coming into her own person. There was no action until the last 10 chapters of the book. Very dry read, but important character development "

"Way too drawn out in the beginning (the first half honestly) - ending drew me in though. Probably won’t read the 5th book."
