The Flash Gold Boxed Set, Chronicles I-III

"As far as I know, this is one of only two semi-YA series Lindsay Buroker attempted back in her Emperor's Edge days (2011ish). While they are not Buroker's first writing rodeo, they do still read like a little like a debut novel - not bad, just less honed than her more recent works. Kali may not always make the smartest choices, but she also won't beat around the bush when she does screw up, and she approaches romance with the the same no-nonsene attitude. Cedar is a little Mary Sueish when all is said and done, but he's also got layers and makes a refreshingly low-key business partner and love interest. The main characters are a bit over-eager (and kind of awkward to be honest) in following their personal passions and vendettas - and I am not even referring to the romantic side of things, which were rather clumsy compared to Buroker's more recent series. However, these are tiny nit picks at most and definitely don't detract from what is just a quick, wholesome Steampunk adventure. "
