Elemental magic plays a large part in the storytelling as does worship of the goddess Nyx who grants them these powers. The traditional sucking blood or other classic tropes are not as important. I love the infusion of Native American legends. It provides a very deep connection to nature and makes sense with the great power Zoey possesses."
