"I finally finished this series this year. This is not your typical vampire series. Most of the time, I forget it's even about vampires. Elemental magic plays a large part in the storytelling as does worship of the goddess Nyx who grants them these powers. The traditional sucking blood or other classic tropes are not as important. I love the infusion of Native American legends. It provides a very deep connection to nature and makes sense with the great power Zoey possesses."

"The story here had a lot of potential and this is an okay read for young adults who love vampires and drama but honestly it has nearly no character development. It's fun for the drama but I wouldn't read the entire series. "

"I read these when I was around 12 and could get through the first 3 or so and then by the 4th one, it was just too much. The student sleeping with the teacher and an abundance of other problems. Even at 12 I knew that these books weren’t appropriate for people my age or even older. These books should not be marketed as YA. I think I threw these books away they made me so uncomfortable. "
