The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Books | Fiction / Visionary & Metaphysical
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here?"

"A beautiful look into the afterlife. A twist on the classic expression “your life flashes before your eyes when you die”. While this is a sad read, it’s also one of hope. I read this for this first time in college. I had to take a class on death and dying. One assignment was to read or watch two things that had to do with death. I chose this book and I remember thinking: If this is what Heaven is really like, it’s not a bad thing at all. Eddie is going to die today. He doesn’t know it yet but we do. When he dies, there are no pearly white gates. Instead he finds himself meeting with people who had some impact on his life whether he realized it at the time or not. Five people to be exact. They will help him answer questions and realize truths. "
"A five star. Lots of tears. "
"Oh goodness - my heart is torn. Every one of the five persons taught such valuable lessons and overall, to cherish the time you have here in life. You learn what is means to love others, make sacrifices, to forgive, to cherish, and to be forgiven and understood. This book has many beautiful quotes and even better life lessons. It’s an extremely easy read. I finished it in just less than the day. Everyone should read it at least once. 5 ⭐️ "
