"I think this is Ruta Sepetys most underrated novel. The plot line and theme truly provoke an emotional response that many modern books lack. The characters are well-developed and dynamic and contribute to the plot (none act as fillers). Beautifully written with the perfect balance between detail and pace. "

"Septeys strongest power is her ability to masterfully write complex characters that get you helplessly hooked on the story. Whether you're hooked on seeing them succeed or hooked on watching them fail, Septeys writes through the intricacies of her characters first- and it absolutely pays off. I do wish, however, that she took some time to build the setting as well as she built her characters. There was a whole lot of potential for New Orleans, and it unfortunately falls to the wayside. "
