The International Bestseller “An apocalyptic extravaganza of doom and heroism…addictive.” —Publishers Weekly “This is a fresh take on classic horror, thoroughly enjoyable and guaranteed to leave your skin crawling.” —Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Wish Me Dead “Guaranteed to do what Jaws did to millions of people.” —Suspense Magazine An astonishingly inventive and terrifying debut novel about the emergence of an ancient species, dormant for over a thousand years, and now on the march.Deep in the jungle of Peru, where so much remains unknown, a black, skittering mass devours an American tourist whole. Thousands of miles away, an FBI agent investigates a fatal plane crash in Minneapolis and makes a gruesome discovery. Unusual seismic patterns register in a Kanpur, India earthquake lab, confounding the scientists there. During the same week, the Chinese government “accidentally” drops a nuclear bomb in an isolated region of its own country. As these incidents begin to sweep the globe, a mysterious package from South America arrives at a Washington, D.C. laboratory. Something wants out. The world is on the brink of an apocalyptic disaster. An ancient species, long dormant, is now very much awake.

"The Hatching was creepy and fun, and I can't wait to see where the series is going. It reads more like a thriller with horror aspects, but I still really enjoyed it. The characterization isn't very deep, but I imagine that will expand across the next two books. I liked the World War Z-esque vibe of POVs around the world during a disaster. I ordered Skitter today, so hopefully I'll be reading it soon!"

"Kept me entertained - fast and fun read with lots of shifting from a variety of characters and perspectives. Nothing incredibly deep but freaky and compelling. "

"An apocalypse caused by spiders is my absolute worst nightmare. This book gave me the heebie-jeebies, to say the least. I am however not interested in continuing on in this series. There were a few lines that were beyond cringey (i.e. a character had been described as the straightest gay man), and I just had to roll my eyes at some of the stereotyping of some of the characters. I did enjoy the multiple points of view though. I also thought the description provided in the prose of the novel was horrifying and disgusting which is perfect for a horror novel. I could see this novel being adapted into a made-for-TV movie (I am looking at you SyFy channel). My feelings on this novel are kind of 'meh', thus the 3-stars."
"Spiders. Lots and lots of hungry, scary spiders. If something brushes up against your skin while you read this one ... you gonna jump!!!!"
