"Yes, I watched this. Jake Gyllenhaal, while a good actor, did not have the intensity or charisma this character needed. Yes he's in spectacular shape and the fighting is definitely a strong point here. The "bad guy" Brandt, reeked of James Spader playing the jerk, rich guy in tons of 80's movies. Conor McGregor as Knox was the probably the best part. I don't particularly care for him in reality but they picked the right dude for that part.
He might as well have had "I'm the DANGER" tattooed on his naked arse in his introduction scene. He's naturally "that guy" and he played it well.
My favorite characters? Laura the barkeeper and the book shop girl, Charlie. I probably won't watch it again. The music is alright but nothing epic. It wasn't as dynamically part of the movie like it was in the original.
(yes this review disappeared for some reason but fortunately I had saved it elsewhere). "
"This modern remake is a tad more tame & chill compared to the good ol’ sleazy-fun rowdy original, yet it’s still enjoyable, & Gyllenhall really throws down! 🤜💥💪
I REALLY enjoyed the #location twist — This new ‘Road House’ is set on the beach in the Florida Keys 🏝️ Loved the ocean scenery! 😍 Loved the beach vibes 🩴🩴 Liked the #action. Most of all, I absolutely loved the bluesy, rockabilly, reggae-rock bar tunes — the#soundtrack is FANTASTIC, & the ensemble cast was perfect: Shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal, butt-naked MMA legend Conor McGregor, funny lady Jessica Williams, bratty villain Billy Magnussen, a few other familiar faces, and a fight-scene cameo from Post Malone.
And, YES, I had to Google to see if that REALLY was Gyllenhaal’s REAL abs! (not a body double or artificial muscle prosthetics) — Yes, he trained vigorously for over year with a professional trainer, and also had a nutritionist and a personal chef. The tattoos were FAKE, but all were commemorative of Patrick Swayze ☺️👍🏾
◼️QUOTE BY GYLLENHAAL: “This role was originated by Patrick Swayze. I knew Patrick—we did this film Donnie Darko together, and he was always so kind to me. I just wanted to honor him and bring him with me. So I have a couple of different tattoos [in the movie] in honor of Patrick. When I put them on in the morning, I’d be reminded of the history of this piece and the origins of it, which was good to remember every day.”

"This reimagining of the classic 80's movie falls a little short in some areas and excels in others. Firstly, Jake Gyllenhaal's version of Dalton is more convincing as a bad ass than the Swayze version, IMO. But we don't get the character development needed with the Roadhouse employees in this movie. He doesn't really get to build a team of bouncers like in the original and the relationships are just glossed over. There needed to be more time spent at the bar, and the whole bookstore thing seemed out of place.
Connor McGregor's over the top performance as Knox borders on being cartoon-like but is entertaining at times. I did think it was funny that he crashes every vehicle to make it stop. The fight scenes are more epic than the original but overall this iteration doesn't feel grounded in reality. There are actually too many differences in these two movies to make a fair comparison. The runtime was also just a tad longer than it needed to be. But generally speaking, it was a decent watch. 7.5/10"
"I’m not a fan of remakes, but saw this director also directed two of my all time faves, Swingers and Edge of Tomorrow, so I was more optimistic. No one tops Swayze, but that was 35 years ago. They totally changed the character, and Jake pulled it off. He’s ripped. Even Connor McGregor wasn’t too horrible. Now, today, the original is only 41% on RT. This will get way better ratings than that. I liked this but we all know the original is always better. "

"I thought the movie started out good but got more unrealistic the longer it went on so I was disappointed."
