"I’m going to file this movie under the “What the Heck Did I Just Watch” category… LOL, but seriously, I actually enjoyed this… I kept thinking to myself the entire time, “This movie is so strange, yet oddly captivating, & where the hell is it all going, & how is it going to end?” — then two hours later it just kinda faded out & ended, leaving me with my thoughts….
So, yeah… There you have it. That’s essentially my review; as I said, I was engaged the entire time, found it oddly interesting, & it made me ponder.
I think if you’ve ever been a parent, you might especially relate 🤷♀️ … I dunno. It’s just one of those films that either you connect with or you don’t, and it’s also a film that’s hard to describe exactly what you like about it, and exactly what it’s about — it’s definitely a good movie to dissect afterward — either on yiu own or with your film or “book club” friends or with anyone else who enjoys analyzing film.
BOTTOM LINE: It’s a film you just have to watch & decide if there was something in it that “speaks” (or spoke) to you… and if it doesn’t, well, then it’s prolly “two hours of your life you’ll never get back.” 😆 "
"This is the type of film to go over your head if you watching it for the wrong things. It’s definitely about a lot of subjects one being motherhood which isn’t always perfect. The way the story is told will also have you filling in a lot a blanks and wondering what it means. But it’s a lot of symbolism and arcs you have to pay attention to with complex characters. The acting from Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson was exceptional. Though it’s not the psychological drama for everyone."

"I really wanted to like this movie because I love Maggie Gyllenhaal. But it was awkward, uncomfortable, and confusing. I've realized I'm not a fan of Jessie Buckley- of all her films I've seen she is the main reason I've disliked them. I know that's harsh, but this movie made me realize it finally. Plus she picks the weirdest, most nonsensical films to be a part of and strives to seem artsy and poetic, but just comes off as pretentious and boring. I get there's supposed to be a lot of symbolism in this one, but most of it went over my head and I don't care enough to read about it online to make sense of it. What I saw was a woman having a crappy vacation who had lots of awkward conversations interspersed with flashbacks of being a bad mom. And it was definitely too long. "
"Complex and unpredictable and as always, Coleman was fabulous"
