There was interesting ground to break without relying on the past if certain moments didn’t show it. I didn’t hate this film but it’s hard to justify its existence."

marsh_6055 shared a tip "damn, is this a weird movie. is it a 'good' movie? i couldn't tell you. but i had fun watching it. i've never seen a movie bite the hand of its production company quite so sharply, and that was a joy to watch; i haven't seen that since Animaniacs. it's very doofy at times, and it feels like fanfiction. but it's fanfiction that loves its source material and memorized all the little details to weave together. so even when the movie turns into a heist, even when it's stupid, it feels constructed with care. did i mention it was fun? intentionally extra-cheesy fun."

After watching the beginning the other day, I decided to give it another shot last night. I agree with Jim Woehr about it being the second best in the series. It took a while to get going, but once it did, it was another great trip down the rabbit hole."

It is a big budget train wreck of "Matrix cliches". Originality is absent, instead "resurrecting" wire cable fights, slow motion bullet sequences (way too many), etc, etc. This film should have been called "The Matrix Unwatchable". It is far too complicated a plot line to follow for such a bad experience. The wire work and makeup are horrible, especially Niobe's"

Finally gave in and watched it on a recent flight and not only did it kill off 2.5 hours of the flight I actually enjoyed it almost as much as the original. Plenty of action and romance this one gets a thumbs up from me!"

It was such a beautiful story of true love between the main characters, and yet it did not feel cheesy or did not fall flat, it felt like it had weight, a purpose. The action scenes and special effects were amazing, and though I agree it was a bit messy, there was no down time. Especially loved the addition of the character of Bugs. The tone was drastically too different from the other movies also, it felt a little too polished and lost its style. Still worth a watch."

It was nice to see the band back together again, sure, but at the cost of boredom, stagnation, and constipated action scenes, I'd sooner rewatch the trilogy. The chemistry Shared between Reeves and Moss transcend even the film's lackluster writing, and the best moments were when they were on screen together."

If you're a soft sci-fi fan who just wants to see some new shiney, this may be a better fit. For everyone else, this is a mixed bag that can't change your mind about sci-fi. Lana Wachowski gives us the full Sense 8 treatment in this film, adding a layer of self reference and slathering on nostalgia to a bubblegum action story. It's fun—and shallow. YMMV."

It also didn't help that fishburne and Weaving weren't there. It would have been better if their characters were written off instead kf relating them because it just comes off as jarring when you see the actual film. This is one of those films that isn't even so bad it's good. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!"

Without spoilers, the addition of two characters without their original actors was wholly unnecessary. The new characters are interesting enough and they could've spent more time fleshing them out. I just feel like everything wasn't very well thought out. I ended up having more questions, but ultimately wouldn't be willing to see another movie to answer them. Decent movie overall, bad Matrix movie. It's better than Revelations, but worse than the original. Also, there's a lack of stylized actions scenes that the Matrix is known for. The action in these movies used to be on par with anime 😂 literally, what happened?"
