"*Shrieks and runs the other direction away from this movie* He went that way and I went the other ;) I’m pretty sure I snort giggled at places that weren’t meant to be funny, but, oh, how they were!
I really can’t take this movie seriously, I mean it has a chimp named Spanky in it for heaven’s sake! Can you really blame me? And not to mention that the main character, Jim, is such a foolish idiot who runs toward conflict and problems like nobody’s business. He lends a ride to Bobby, a man who turns out to be a serial killer and just asks for it a little bit too much. There are many chances to be rid of Bobby yet he takes absolutely none of them! It’s like he lives for the pain of being associated with a complete psychopath who didn’t kill as many people as you’d expect, which was hilarious in and of itself. Not sure he earned his title. Steer clear, though, if you know what’s good for you…please! I’m saving you! The chimp is the only thing that could potentially have rescued this movie from itself…"
"He Went That Way is a thriller based on a true crime story set in 1964. The film follows a 19-year-old serial killer, Bobby (Jacob Elordi), and a celebrity animal handler, Jim (Zachary Quinto), on a treacherous journey along Route 66. The film's unique premise and the casting of Elordi and Quinto initially promise an intriguing watch.
However, the film struggles to find a steady tone and veers off into bizarre subplots. The performances of Elordi and Quinto, despite their talent, are surprisingly underwhelming. Critics have pointed out that the script feels like it's made up of spare parts from the Coen Brothers' films.
On the positive side, the film's cinematography is praised, with every scene looking like a million bucks. The smoky, creamy look of retro motels and the expansive desert setting are visually appealing.
He Went That Way is a mixed bag. It has an intriguing premise and excellent cinematography but falls short in execution and performance. It's a film that might appeal to those interested in true crime stories or fans of the lead actors, but it may not satisfy those looking for a well-rounded thriller.
