"I've seen a lot of people give this movie high marks and some even said it's one of the best of the year in its genre. I disagree. Although Mia Goth gives a great performance, the movie, overall, just wasn't my cup of tea. I found the pace to be too slow and the story just didn't intrigue me. I will say it is a different type of horror movie, but not for everyone. I give it 5/10."

"As much as I didn’t like X it’s made up for in Pearl! I loved Pearl it’s Ti Wests best movie by a land side (for me that’s easy though). From the bright colors that do really give old school technicolor vibes and Mia Goths amazing pretrial of Pearl, I think it’s a step in the right direction for this three parter, I just hope they keep up it up. Also if you are a awkward/weird girl and have been all your life this is our joke ladies. 🤙🏻"

"This is a prequel to last years really good horror movie X, in what will become a trilogy with later this years MaXXXine. They’re are all directed by accomplished horror director Ti West and are really star making vehicles to the star of all three films, Mia Goth, who gets a writing credit in this one. wack job in this. West is paying homages to his favorite genres. Where X was in the style of a 70’s **** movie, this is straight 50’s Hitchcock in every facet, down to the psycho Goth plays here. I can appreciate the artistry and the moral of this film, and there really is some fantastic acting. However, like I am with Hitchcock movies, I was kinda bored more than a few tomes. "

"A prequel to Ti West’s first film of the year (X) that adds clarity to Pearl’s backstory and childhood. Despite lacking the depth that X had, this is a solid horror film with plenty of interesting parallels to societal norms in 2022. I definitely recommend watching this once it’s available to stream. "I did not like this film. Everyone gave it such high marks, which didn’t make my expectations super high, but it made it feel worse for me when I was underwhelmed by it. I felt it dragged, it was boring, I didn’t care about any of the characters, and not anywhere *near* enough gore and brutality to make up for all that. Basically it lacked every single thing I look for in a movie. The acting was fine, but it absolutely did not pull the weight all by itself. Sorry but it’s a no from me dog"

"Maybe I shouldn't have seen this one first but I saw it was the prequel so I figured I would watch this before X...maybe I was wrong but def watching X next cause this was a weird one. Not my cup of tea but also not so completely disinterested in continuing onto the next one. "

"Horrortober 2022 Day 30 “I want you to remember what it feels like. Because that’s how I felt every time you looked at me.” Pearl is frightening, weird, pleasant, comedic, and terrifying, all wrapped into one. Mia Goth makes this film everything that it is and more. This actually makes the prequel X even better in my opinion. Both films have similarities but are very different at its core. TI West and Mia Goth did something right with this prequel. After watching this I’m ready to rewatch X (which I also loved) and see all the parallels that exist in this universe. With the third installment MaXXXine in production i have no doubts that it won’t be as good or even better than it’s predecessors."
