"Liza Minnelli and Joel grey give brilliant performances in this disturbing glimpse of the rise of hitler’s nazi germany. The world of today can learn a lot about how facism takes hold."

"It might be surprising to learn that I've just now watched this for the first time considering how up my alley it seems and is but I sometimes like to go for the more obscure and unknown before I go for something as celebrated as this. Partially to my detriment as this was as good as people have told me it is.
It's definitely a vibe going into this knowing the era it's set in and being introduced to all the characters in their various states of queerness and jewishness and non standard sexual proclivities. And the uneasiness of that is helped by the surreal way that the Cabaret scenes are shot.
I have seen the "tomorrow belongs to me" scene before in research for something a long time ago. I found it chilling then and it's even moreso in context. "
"A wonderful musical that is both a character drama and depicts how fascism takes root in society. A quietly nuanced moment is when early nazi propaganda is defaced and graffitied by communists who later in the film are targets of nazi violence in the background. Ultimately the film is about the dangers of ignoring fascism and not actively and collectively squashing it before it takes takes root."
