KalynThis epic science fiction film taking place in the year 2154 sees the world of Pandora through the eyes of a wheelchair bound solider Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a former marine that finds himself trading places with his suddenly deceased scientist twin brother Tom, in exchange for a costly surgery to repair his legs. Through his daily biological research assignments he is able to take the form of a Na’vi individual using an Avatar body since humans (Sky People) are unable to breathe the air for extended periods of time. For three months he lies to the Navi people in order to assimilate himself among the tribespeople to gain their trust and learn their secrets. As a result, he is able to pass along valuable military intel with the goal of eventually creating a peaceful trade in exchange for their mineral resources. During Jake’s various rights of passage he finds a fresh start and unexpected love with the tribesman’s daughter Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). While scientists of the Avatar program (Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore), and Dr. Max Patel (Dileep Rao)) applauded and encourage his extensive integration process he eventually outlives his useful to the military and is seen as only a expendable nuisance. Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) especially views him as a deserter and an overall threat to the operation after attacking a military bulldozer ship. Faced with threats from all angles, Jake has to decide how far he will go and what he is willing to give up in order to fight for his new life in Pandora and to save the Navi tribe people. James Cameron’s Avatar is a visual treat unlike any other that leaves the viewer spellbound at its sheer picturesque beauty. Unfortunately the story is not as magnificent as the visuals and is nothing new. Na’ve = Native and are a cross between the Sioux and Cherokee Indians. The traditional plot provides numerous stereotypical characters ranging from Chiefs to greedy corporate bigots with little character depth. While the overall length of the film is unnecessarily long and many scenes forget to propel the story forward and only focus on the costly CGI. Ultimately if you can forget about the predictable plot the film is definitely worth watching simply as a visual delight. #VisualMarvel #MilitaryCliche #WhiteSaviorNarrative #Environmentalism #Colonialism #SciFiPocahontas

KalynThis ongoing sitcom comedy from the mind of Quinta Brunson focuses on a fictional underfunded urban Philadelphia elementary school has quickly become ABC’s biggest breakout hit since Modern Family. Every teacher comes with a unique voice and background. Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Anne Walter) is a South Philly native with mobster connections and a take no prisoners tough love mindset. Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti) is an awkwardly woke gay teacher struggling to “be cool” around his mostly black students. Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) an overly optimistic and idealistic teacher with co-dependency issues. Straight-laced and reserved Greggory Eddie (Tyler James Williams), the new substitute turned full-time teacher, that wrestles with his masculinity in a predominately female profession. Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) a mature teacher with a strong faith in Christianity that often ends up unwillingly being a role model and mentor to other teachers. Done in the same style as The Office, this insightful mockumentary provides realistic handling of authentic issues facing the United States public school systems. These issues range from underfunding, teacher curriculum standards, student behavior problems, new teaching software, disengaged parents, charter school competition, and cafeteria food quality just to name a few. These issues are thrown in as obstacles during each episode to highlight the core concept of the show. Which is painstakingly made clear that no one really understands just how much work goes into teaching and how much of that work doesn’t include just teaching children. This show succeeds in finding one or more ways to resonate with any viewer because everyone either has been a student or a teacher at one point in their life. Abbott Elementary is currently finished with their second season and many people look forward to more humorous takes about public school and its poignant look at everyday educational inequalities and teacher disparities. TV Show Trivia: Real life teacher Joyce Abbott inspired this show after spending 25 years in the Philadelphia public school system. The show’s creator Quinta Brunson was one of her students who now an actor, comedian, and Emmy award winning writer was once described as timid and shy. #PromotingPhillyPride #WildNOutPrincipal #TeachingInChaos #AntiDrugRapping #ThisIsTrash
