In 2071, roughly fifty years after an accident with a hyperspace gateway made the Earth almost uninhabitable, humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System. Amid a rising crime rate, the Inter Solar System Police (ISSP) set up a legalized contract system, in which registered bounty hunters, also referred to as "Cowboys", chase criminals and bring them in alive in return for a reward.

"I don’t have nostalgia for Bebop. My family didn’t have cable so for the few times I watched it when I was younger I was like damn that music perfectly encapsulates and enhances the show but it didn’t keep my interest that interesting especially watching stuff like Strike Witches at the time. Things are different now that I’m older. Bebop’s biggest strength is it’s finality. Every protag (and many side characters) gets a loose end of their past tied up or something to help them persevere with what life dealt them. Their stories aren’t finished but their time with Bebop comes to an end. It’s such a breathe of fresh air compared to everyone trying to make a billion dollar franchise that can be milked forever. My favorite episode is when Faye watches a time capsule VHS recorded by past self expecting answers on why she was frozen. She didn’t get the answers she was looking for but she got encouragement from her past self and you see Faye’s abrasiveness melt away only to be replaced with a moment of vulnerability. The best episodes are those that build on the characters or the finality while the worse are ones that have little to do with either (the trans-humanist episode and blaxploitation episode for me). But Bebop’s highs clearly outweigh its lows. Now about Bebop as a first time anime recommendation… "

"Hate to say I didn’t love this. I like the characters. Plus I’m a sucker for that old anime look. Hard to say what I didn’t like because for some reason I didn’t review this show after watching right away. Just remember being a little disappointed. I did love the finale though."

"One of the all time greatest animes. It is not flawless but its unique mix of an amazing soundtrack, the merging of western and Japanese animation styles, eclectic pop culture references and neo noir story makes Cowboy Bebop lightning in a bottle. 10 out of 10 "

"Ah, yes, the classic anime that I also happen to dislike. This one isn't really for me, I couldn't fully get engaged with the story."

"10/10 Finally finished this, widely regarded as one of the coolest anime ever made. It took a long time to finish, because I felt I needed to give each episode my undivided focus. The drama is incredible, and giving it half my focus would have been a travesty. The action scenes are great. Like many anime series, many of the episodes are filler, but those don't feel like filler. The central plot, that of Spike's character arc is enthralling. A perfect show. Bang. "
