"This is my newest comfort show. It’s one of the most genuinely hilarious shows I’ve ever watched. I absolutely adore the juxtaposition between how seriously the characters take everything and how unseriously the show takes itself. And the narrator is my favorite character. It also has the capacity to get very heartfelt and it just adds so much emotional weight to the story."
"After getting caught up on this show I will proudly declare that it's a top 10-er of all time. It combines the exciting chess match of Death Note with romance and a bunch of genuinely funny gags. Likeable, believable characters around the entire cast even with all other anime excess. Plus the animes general thematic cleverness mixed with an interesting mentioning of the Japanese Student Movement make me generally curious how far the left wing rabbit hole it's opened will go. I don't want to leave people w the impression that this is unapproachable tho. It is genuinely very watchable on most any level and I would suggest it to most anyone. Just a fantastic romance anime imo."
"I was dubious about this show at first as it very much seemed like the kind of show to be filled with annoying and outdated teen romance tropes. So I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the whole point of it is to satirize such tropes, which it does rather effectively through characterization and humor (and the humor is legitimately high quality). And, as others have stated, watching this show after or alongside Death Note makes the "battle" scenes even funnier."
