Winner of the Hugo Award! In A Psalm for the Wild-Built, bestselling Becky Chambers's delightful new Monk and Robot series, gives us hope for the future. It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They're going to need to ask it a lot.Becky Chambers's new series asks: in a world where people have what they want, does having more matter? At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

"If ever there was a warm fuzzy blanket of a book, this is it. It is the sweetest book and I’m happy there is another book in this series to move onto. This reminded me a little of Ishmael, in that the main characters are operating in the same world through different lenses and they come to understand it better through connecting and trying to view it outside of their own lenses. Just fantastic!"

"Well, this sure was diffrent from what most people think the world will look like in the future. I mean I guess it had to get worse before it got better but you are set in the time when it's already gotten better. It just felt kinda weird to read a relaxing utopia where humans have realzed how f'd the world was and robots ganing consiousness had to be the driving force behind their reform. It's nice, I liked all of the talk about nature and what it means to be a person and what the purpose of life is.
Dex was a mixed bag for me, sometimes they said intresting stuff and I liked them, sometimes they were annoying and it runied the tranquility of the book. Mosscap was really fun, the author really killed wrirting a kickbutt robot. I enjoyed Mosscap's character a ton, maybe because it reminded me of my best friend. I was very sad to find out apple spiders weren't a actual species of spider upon reserach."
"This was such a good cozy read! The first book I’ve ever read that made me want to annotate and take parts with me out into the world. This is a cute fantasy/science fiction? Idk but we meet Dex, a monk who lives in a post robotic sentient rebellion where they finally have agency and choose to leave humanity behind for the woods. Dex is trying to figure out what life looks like next for them 200 years after this epic human life changing event. They’re at a place where their current situation is no longer fulfilling, and man can we all relate to that?! You get to a place in life where you prayed and worked hard to be in and then after a while you start wondering why you can’t hear crickets; all of the sudden this place this feeling this life is not enough so you reinvent yourself. So Dex goes back and starts over on a new life and before they know it they’ve mastered it, and once again the crickets are silent, in comes Mosscap. A wild-built robot who has come to check in with humanity, what do we need? And this starts this journey for the answer to a question that seems unanswerable; where two seemingly opposite beings, object and animal if you will, find common ground and learn valuable lessons from each other! It’s so cute and amazing and just a nice break from epic fantasies and the real world. I think why this is a 5 for me, it mainly reinforces the fact that, ITS OK TO JUST EXIST! Sometimes it’s ok if we don’t have a plan, you don’t need to always be looking for what comes next, sometimes exchanging air is good enough. Also can we talk about the representation! A non-binary monk! I LOVED IT. Mainly because not once in this story was gender necessary for the message. Happy reading! "
"Has anyone else read this? I found it to be one of my best reads this year. A non-binary tea monk travels on a peaceful planet and finds a wild robot in the forest. Introspective, fantastical, just a breath of fresh air. My first solarpunk book which I didn't know existed until now. Becky Chambers helps me fall back in love with life everytime I pick up her books."
