Stephen King
The #1 New York Times bestseller about a famous novelist held hostage in a remote location by his “number one fan.” One of “Stephen King’s best…genuinely scary” (USA TODAY).Paul Sheldon is a bestselling novelist who has finally met his number one fan. Her name is Annie Wilkes, and she is more than a rabid reader—she is Paul’s nurse, tending his shattered body after an automobile accident. But she is also furious that the author has killed off her favorite character in his latest book. Annie becomes his captor, keeping him prisoner in her isolated house. Annie wants Paul to write a book that brings Misery back to life—just for her. She has a lot of ways to spur him on. One is a needle. Another is an axe. And if they don’t work, she can get really nasty. “Terrifying” (San Francisco Chronicle), “dazzlingly well-written” (The Indianapolis Star), and “truly gripping” (Publishers Weekly), Misery is “classic Stephen King...full of twists and turns and mounting suspense” (The Boston Globe).

"I loved it! Creepy, psychotic horror right up my alley. This was excellent because it is fiction but could and possibly has happened in the real world. This was a suspenseful page turner and definitely recommend.
Watched the movie after reading. Book truly is much better. This book has quite a bit more gore and goes into more detail with mental illness. "
"This is definitely one of the more pushed-aside books by Steven King. It has an eerie and suspenseful plot, and the way it is written makes you feel like you are really inside the main characters mind. There are some gory scenes, but nothing I couldn’t handle. Loved the detail and especially the character of Annie Wilkes."
"When i began to read Misery i couldn’t fully get into it and it felt a little slow. But man am i happy i kept with it!! Stephen King is a literary master who can paint the wildest images in your mind as you read his work. Haunting, suspenseful, and gory. This novel is definitely worth a read if you’re into horror!! "
"Genius. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of this vibe of a character being alone a lot because I love getting into a bunch of character, but this was done incredibly."

"Well I am of the minority of people who do not much care for Stephen Kings books. He is an amazing writer yes and has inspired countless others to be sure. King's works are just not in my normal wheelhouse. Yet I find myself snatching another and another off the shelf during the fall months. Something about them is horribly enticing. They make me uncomfortable and wary, pretty much the perfect mixture for spooktober.<br/><br/>So if I am not a fan of King's why the 4 stars? This is the first book I have thoroughly enjoyed. I'm unsure why this is the first but hopefully not the last. Maybe because of it's relatablity. Why do celebrities not post their home addresses or whereabouts. For this very reason. Of course there are normal and respectful fans but then there are the others. The ones who cannot differentiate between reality and fiction. A slight to a character is a slight to the reader. "How dare you!"<br/><br/>King is able to project so much rage from his words that it honestly makes me want to cover my ears and shut my eyes. Funnily enough the word Cock-a-doody freaks me out to the point where I think Annie will pop up from behind the couch if I say it. The writing process intrigued me as well. I feel like King puts so much of himself into these stories so that maybe some of the concepts are of his own personal experiences like "The gotta"."
