Emily Henry
AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!Named a Most Anticipated book of 2024 by TIME ∙ The New York Times ∙ Goodreads ∙ Entertainment Weekly ∙ Today ∙ Paste ∙ SheReads ∙ BookPage ∙ Woman's World ∙ The Nerd Daily and more!A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry. Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak. Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them? But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

"The story was cliche, but it had me invested in the beginning. It’s a slow burn and towards the half end of the book I started to lose interest, but I do say that Miles and Daphne start out and end adorable."

"This book was so good! I think Happy Place is still my favorite Emily Henry book, but this one is probably a close second! I loved the characters and thought they were so well developed! Daphne and Miles are both so sweet, and I think they're amazing together! Opposites attract, forced proximity/roommates, friends to lovers, fake dating! This book was pretty fast paced and such an easy read with plenty of fluff and a bit of spice! If you're a fan of Emily Henry, or are just looking for a nice romcom then I definitely recommend checking this book out!"
"All I know is that I wasn’t close to ready to leave this world and its lovable characters, bartender Miles and librarian Daphne. Each of them are ditched by their respective partners, Petra and Peter, who decide to get together after being close for as long as they can remember. Daphne and Miles are left to urgently pick up the pieces of the rubble that has become their lives. They decide to become roommates because Daphne is at a loss for where to go after being left by her fiancé and his decadent, button-upped lifestyle.
Little by little, by time and shared space, she becomes smitten as a kitten for her new roommate as he does her. Each have a great deal of family trauma to shoulder but it’s nothing that they can’t handle together as a pair taking on the world one bit at a time. They even pretend to be a couple at first to get back at Peter and Petra who have left them in the dust. It gets too genuine, however, and they begin to fall and fall hard for each other for real. I loved that Miles opened Daphne’s eyes to the world and new local destinations for her to visit and discover. And I loved that Daphne gained enough courage to let her walls down to find a new, intimate love so beautiful that she gets wrapped up in its firm, reliable embrace. This story is bursting at the seams with palpable joy and is awash with a sense of adventure and I loved every minute. Emily Henry does it again and is back better than ever! "
"I love Emily Henry and this might be my new favourite book of hers. It was the perfect combination of heartfelt, emotional, witty, and lighthearted. There is fake dating in it but her writing makes it feel less trope-y if that makes any sense. I love how EH includes other relationships other than the romantic one and the exploration of platonic friendships touched on in this one. The setting was so fun and I really liked how Miles and and Daphne navigate their mutual heartbreaks while falling for each other. The pacing was great and as always the humour was spot on! There was some spice and some tension. Not closed door but not super explicit either. 1/5 spice level. "
"Emily Henry's books can be hit or miss for me…I either love them or I can't finish them. While this one isn’t my favorite of hers, it is one of her better ones. I wanted a little more character development outside of their family issues and emotional baggage. I would get annoyed with miscommunication or lack of communication at times and thought it could use a little more humor. It was, however, a very easy and overall enjoyable read. "
"emily henry has done it again! I truly think this might be my new favourite of her books! (+ tbh I haven’t said that after reading everyone she comes out with)
