Renowned oceanographer Steve Zissou has sworn vengeance upon the rare shark that devoured a member of his crew. In addition to his regular team, he is joined on his boat by Ned, a man who believes Zissou to be his father, and Jane, a journalist pregnant by a married man. They travel the sea, all too often running into pirates and, perhaps more traumatically, various figures from Zissou's past, including his estranged wife, Eleanor.

" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4 rewatch. One of my all-time favorite films, it hits a little differently today. I still enjoyed it but not as enthrallingly as I once had been, and I found it a bit more problematic with a misogynistic tone I didn’t remember. It’s definitely still fun, bright, quirky and entirely unique..even for Wes Anderson. "
"This is a rewatch (maybe?). This is a much better film than I expected it to be. This might be one of Wes Anderson’s best and most emotionally weighty films (with a powerful story of a man examining his legacy along with an emotionally moving father-son story (and ending)) while also being incredibly funny. This has phenomenal comedic timing complemented by its stellar editing, as well as the cinematography and production design (that model cutaway scene describing the ship was amazing). None of this would remotely work as well without the committed performances from the cast, with Bill Murray in particular standing out in the lead role. Special shout-outs also go to Willem Dafoe (who manages to be both endearing and hilarious at once (his range and versatility is not talked about enough)), Owen Wilson, Angelica Huston, and Jeff Goldblum (found myself laughing a lot whenever he was on screen). I’m kind of shocked at the low rotten tomatoes score for this film (56%) as I find it to be way better (and filled with more heart) than it is being given credit for. At least I’m glad it is being reevaluated now. At least Top 4 Wes Anderson film in my book (strong Top 3 contender). Highly recommended."
