Brandon Reedis looking for a Show or Movie in Fantasy Land
There have been quite a few fantasy sequels and reboots over the years that either eliminated or downplayed their respective series' prior fantasy elements. Sometimes this is handled well, but sometimes it's not. What are some examples of this type of shift? Do you think it was handled well? Why or why not?

Brandon ReedThis movie was the inspiration for the ask. It's a spoiler for me to include it here, but I hope that you'll forgive me for spoiling a direct-to-video Scooby Doo movie. Anyway, as a childhood fan of the original 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, it felt like a slap in the face to have the movie advertised as the finale to the show, then to retcon out one of the key characters, relegate another main character to an expository role, add in two main characters to replace them (even if they are more recognizable/widely-known Scooby-Doo characters), and then retcon out everything that made 13 Ghosts unique among the Scooby-Doo TV series. Velma Dinkley has never irritated me more. ... Okay, the show Velma, yes, but other than that, she's never irritated me more. Vincent Price wouldn't have stood for this, I'm sure.

Jim WoehrYeah like 13 Ghosts, this was made so Velma can prove real monsters don’t exist. Which takes the fun out of the original movie.

Brandon ReedI don't have to tell you how I felt about Indiana Jones coming back after decades of retirement from hunting Judeo-Christian artifacts and foiling death cults to stop the Soviets from stealing an alien cranium. I felt the same about it as everyone else 🤣

Olivet 🍸Sequel to Army of the Dead… I saw this first and loved it, so I watched AOTD & hated it. The second one was spattered with zombies… first one was all about…

Nona LisaI didn't care for this remake. I mean, where was the owl? Just a quick cameo and then no more. The costumes were terrible. There was just a lot of oomph missing. I didn't care about any of the characters but I loved the Harry Hamlin one's characters. Yeah, it's old. The special effects are laughable. But to me, that's what makes the OG a true classic.

MeYou0The first movie is more serious, a little spooky (for a kid). The second one is all campiness and silliness. I love the second one for that reason. All the different bad gremlins are so funny.
