No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

"I liked this a lot. Beautiful imagery. The different tents in the circus were thought provoking. Reading some of the comments here, that the characters weren’t developed and nothing they did mattered... I’ve thought about it a bit, and I think that’s kinda the point. Everything they were was the circus, and the circus was something few of them truly understood or had control over. I see how that parallel would be frustrating for some, but I thought it added meaning to frustration of “the game” "
"The Night Circus was not my favorite book. I believe it had potential, however, it was written in such a way that I was almost always confused when reading. A tip for those that decide to read the Night Circus, make sure to look at the date and details at the beginning of each chapter. Without that information I promise you’d never know what you were reading. I didn’t love the plot, nor did I connect with the characters. It was just not the book for me. I will say though, that the visuals of this book are stunning. The circus is magical and unlike anything, however, that’s all it was for me. Aesthetics. "
