"This story about sisters is both beautiful and haunting. "

"I’ve been so busy teaching and taking my own classes that I’ve fallen dreadfully behind in my reading list. Sadly several books have been relegated to the DNF pile and didn’t even make it to any reviews. To be honest, this book was about 5 pages close to the pile! However something forced me to forge on. I’m glad I did. The last 150 pages are great. Definitely a drama book not a thriller or suspense story but a good author and well written. "

"I decided to finally DNF this book at about 65% and skimmed the rest here and there to see what happens. This is soo boring. I really enjoyed the first chapter or so, but it went downhill quick. Love the covers, but that’s about it."

"This book was the perfect fall lit fic read and will probably enter the records as one of the best books of 2024. The story is complex, deep, rich, nuanced, realistic, heartbreaking, heartwarming, funny, angering, sad and hopeful. It basically has everything, all the emotions contained in one story about grief, family and our place in the world. One year after Nicky Blue was found dead in the family’s New York city apartment, the remaining three blue sisters are scattered around the globe trying to cope with their foursome being short a sister. The Youngest, Lucky, is a model who will try anything and everything to escape reality, even if it’s causing her life to come crashing down around her. Middle sister Bonnie, a champion boxer, fled to California after losing her last fight, lives an isolated life afraid to start living again. The eldest sister, Avery, is a recovered heroin addict living in London working as a high-priced attorney who is losing touch with who she is as a person. When their mother sends them an email informing them of her plans to sell the apartment, the sisters all find their way back home to try and stop the sale. Each of the sisters brings their own flaws, dreams and emotional hang-ups to this story about coping with loss, accepting the past and the power of family. I was wrapped up in the drama the entire time and found everything felt completely raw, and real. You will feel all of the emotions reading this book, but in the end, it is a story filled with hope despite its difficult subject material of grief, addiction and family roles. Definitely worth the read."

"I listed to the audiobook for this one, and while it was a bit overly sentimental and over explained the sister dynamic, it was still worth reading. Avery’s story, the most fleshed out, really depicted self destructive patterns and the lingering effects of childhood traumas. Lucky was for the most part an absolute mess, yet she still managed to make me feel empathetic towards her and cheer for her recovery. Bonnie, even tempered and soft, was probably my favourite as a middle child myself. I don’t think she had too much development aside from confessing to Pavel, but I enjoyed her parts nonetheless. Overall, though the story was mostly character driven, and so sometimes a bit slow, I think it told an important story of loss, love, addiction and honesty."

"I am a sucker for a stunning cover and while this book has one of the most aesthetically pleasing covers I have had the honor of laying on my bedside table, I can also attest that the contents inside had me feeling a whirlwind of emotions and earned a solid 4.5 star rating from me. <br/><br/>blue sisters by coco mellors is without a doubt one of my favorite reads of 2024. As one of four sisters myself, I felt deeply for the characters in this book. I thought coco did a glorious job at conveying the precious bond of sisters and how their souls echo internally amongst one another through the perspectives of Avery, Bonnie, and Lucky Blue. <br/><br/>the topic of grief was handled graciously throughout the book. It was both interesting from an observational point and heartbreaking to see how each character handled loss differently, coping with their own vices while masking the pain that they were each in. <br/><br/>I can’t wait to read more by coco in the future and am so happy I read this before the end of the year! <br/>"

"I loved Cleopatra and Frankenstein so I was very excited to read this book. Disappointed to say the least and I seem to be in the minority as I’ve seen rave reviews for this one. If I never have to read “wolffish grin” again I will be happy. None of the characters were likeable and I was positively bored by the boxing descriptions. We were told repeatedly that these sisters loved each other but I never felt it. The writing was all over the place. Also, sometimes key sentences or words were in bold… why?! Just annoying and I was happy to finish it. "
