Stephen King
#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King’s terrifying novella about a town engulfed in a dense, mysterious mist as humanity makes its last stand against unholy destruction—originally published in the acclaimed short story collection Skeleton Crew and made into a TV series, as well as a feature film starring Thomas Jane and Marcia Gay Harden. In the wake of a summer storm, terror descends...David Drayton, his son Billy, and their neighbor Brent Norton join dozens of others and head to the local grocery store to replenish supplies following a freak storm. Once there, they become trapped by a strange mist that has enveloped the town. As the confinement takes its toll on their nerves, a religious zealot, Mrs. Carmody, begins to play on their fears to convince them that this is God’s vengeance for their sins. She insists a sacrifice must be made and two groups—those for and those against—are aligned. Clearly, staying in the store may prove fatal, and the Draytons, along with store employee Ollie Weeks, Amanda Dumfries, Irene Reppler, and Dan Miller, attempt to make their escape. But what’s out there may be worse than what they left behind. This exhilarating novella explores the horror in both the enemy you know—and the one you can only imagine.

"This book sent me over the edge of the precipice I had been standing on. At the time, this story caused deep despair in me and I have stayed away from any movies or shows about it. And I'll never read it again either, even though I'm not the same person, not wanting to live anymore. Even though I know it's not the book's fault, I did end up in the hospital on su1c1d3 watch after reading it. It left a lasting impression on me. If I had never read it back during a terrible time in my life, I know I wouldn't have a problem reading it today. Even so, this story is disturbing, bleak, gory, sad, and full of despair. Knowing what it's about, having read it, I probably wouldn't feel the need to read it today, if for the first time. Even though I could handle it, sometimes "bleak and full of despair" isn't the best choice. At least not for me. This is the only King book (actually it was a story in a book of stories called Skeleton Crew) that I have ever disliked/hated. He tends to write books that are, again, bleak and full of despair, but there was just something about this one......."
"Honestly nothing in this book can quite compare to the ending of the movie, even King is upset he didn't think of that ending. That said the ending of this book is very open to interpretation and I've always read it over and over trying to figure out if there was a hidden implication or a hint on what actually would happen. It's a good short read."
"3.5⭐️ Not my favorite King novel. I admit I was kinda disappointed by the ending, I loved the plot, and the writing, but the characters didn’t really connect with me, I hated the ending.. Nevertheless, It’s a fun, spooky read. I enjoyed my time reading it, I don’t regret reading it, and I’d probably still recommend it. Even if I liked the movie better haha
Read: 10/1/22"
"I was never able to figure out the 2nd word that the protagonist whispered to his son at the very end. One was "hope". Did anyone figure out the other one?"
