Stevie Bell solved the case of Truly Devious, and now she's taking her detecting skills abroad when she becomes embroiled in a mystery from 1990s England. Another pulse-pounding and laugh-out-loud stand-alone mystery from New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson. Senior year at Ellingham Academy for Stevie Bell isn't going well. Her boyfriend, David, is studying in London. Her friends are obsessed with college applications. With the cold case of the century solved, Stevie is adrift. There is nothing to distract her from the questions pinging around her brain--questions about college, love, and life in general. Relief comes when David invites Stevie and her friends to join him for study abroad, and his new friend Izzy introduces her to a double-murder cold case. In 1995, nine friends from Cambridge University went to a country house and played a drunken game of hide-and-seek. Two were found in the woodshed the next day, murdered with an ax. The case was assumed to be a burglary gone wrong, but one of the remaining seven saw something she can't explain. This was no break-in. Someone's lying about what happened in the woodshed. Seven suspects. Two murders. One killer still playing a deadly game.

"If you love Stevie Bell from Truly Devious, you'll want to read this. Stevie and her friends are off to London to study abroad. Of course, somehow murder mysteries always seem to find Stevie - even in London. You might figure out the clues, but I doubt you'll put them together like Stevie."
"I'm so mad. I'm so mAD.
Oh My God Maureen what have I ever done to you to deserve this sort of cliffhanger?!
I want to scream out of the window but it's sweltering outside and I'm afraid I'll melt.
Jesus Christ.

Okay. Rant over.
Another great installment of the series. The mystery was great, the romance was great or maybe I'm just a huge sap.
The character development, the growth of relationships and their evolution. It's all amazing.
But the cliffhanger, man. Wow.
Never love any writer who'll do this to you.

Jk. I love her ****. But this wait will end me.
Take responsibility, Maureen."
"DAVID WILL PAY FOR WHAT HE DID

I liked the book, I thought the mystery was interesting and unfolded well. The flashbacks throughout the book I liked, it added a lot. The mystery did take second place to Stevie and David, which wasn’t my favorite, and I think the author kind of forgot about Dr. Quinn and her calls. I was disappointed about the lack of connection with Janelle, Vi, and Nate (I listened to the audiobook, sorry about the names) as the author picked specific moments to have a connection with Stevie, but because that was lacking in the rest of the book (and was a criticism I have had with the rest of the series) so the moments that were supposed to be bug didn’t have much of an impact. Overall, I think this is my least favorite in the series so far, but the mystery still had my interest."
"I have never read any of the Ellington series, but I really enjoyed this YA thriller. The flashbacks to the original murder were effective as were the police statements. Perhaps since I hadn't read the previous novels, I did not understand the purpose or impact of the calls from the woman at their school.

Overall, I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy a light yet interesting YA thriller."
