"Cecilia Harcourt traveled from England to the Colonies in search of her missing brother. While she could not find him, she found his best friend, Edward Rokesby who was unconscious in the hospital. When being Cecilia Harcourt was getting her no help in her brothers whereabouts, she lied and claimed to be Mrs. Edward Rokesby, the daughter-in-law of an earl, and then captains began helping locate her brother. Cecilia had become familiar with Edward by writing to each other in letters to and from her brother. When Edward wakes up and has no memory, she continues the lie and Edward believes he has a proxy marriage arranged by his missing best friend Thomas Harcourt, Cecilia’s brother. Edwards’s memory does not even allow him to know what happened or how he was injured. Cecilia continues to be married in hopes of finding information on her brother. When his memory finally comes back, he remembers he was checking a port for the royal governor of New York when he and Thomas were attacked. Thomas died and he also remembers that he is not married. When Cecilia learns of her brothers fate, Edward does not tell her he has his memory, but allows her to grieve. She realizes that she cannot continue the fake marriage any longer, so she leaves Edward a letter and gets on a boat to return to England. Edward fell in love with Cecilia and her care of him when he was injured, so he finds her on the boat and asks for the truth and then asks her to be his wife. "

"i loved the entire book and truly love all of the bridgerton prequels i’ve read this far, it’s just if i didn’t already know that i love bridgerton before i started reading then i think it would’ve taken me far too long to get into it. i would 100% consider them a kind of slow burn romance "
