"SPOILER ALERT: As much as I loved the first book, this one is miles better! Kate and Anthony’s chemistry and banter was entertaining and engaging. It felt like the more modern steamier version of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s dynamic in Pride and Prejudice. I loved everything about this book. Anthony’s heartbreaking outlook on his mortality was a dramatic way to begin the story, but his belief that he would never surpass his father really informed every bit of the story. I also loved how this element of his character was echoed in Kate with her irrational fear of storms and the genesis of this terror within her. It was so romantic how they found solace and comfort from their terror in each other. I really adored everything about this book and there are so many things I wish the show had included: Kate’s sibling dynamic with the Bridgertons (specifically Colin and Eloise), Edwina’s academic personality (and poorer love interest), Edwina observing the love between Anthony and Kate and encouraging it, Anthony and Kate’s friendship with Penelope (especially that amazing scene where Anthony defends Penelope to Cressida Cowper and honors Pen in front of everyone) and finally, the fact that Newton actually liked Anthony. The one thing I didn’t like was that their marriage was born out of scandal and a ridiculous one at that. I must admit that I laughed incredulously at Anthony trying to suck the venom out of Kate’s bee sting, but only for a moment. His panic and Kate’s realization as to why was heart wrenching. All in all, this was a superb read and my fave so far!"

"Book Anthony is way less infuriating than Show Anthony! This was old-fashioned feeling in both good and bad ways, but it definitely has me looking forward to season 2 of the show. "

"In my humble opinion, this is the rare second book that outshines the first. The story and characters are so real that you feel like you are falling in love with them."

"3.5 ⭐️ Round 2 of books Bridgerton and I’m still feeling similarly. Even though the basic structure of the story is there, I feel the show is doing a better job of bringing the tension. Anthony originally still intends to marry Kate’s sister, but the love triangle found in the show is not present in the book. Also, and I know it’s the time era, but I found it challenging to like someone who doesn’t respect his wife’s boundaries and is jealous of her being able to face her past trauma. Luckily he displays character growth by the end, which is redeeming. "

"4.5 stars - Anthony was a complete asshole for the first chunk, but I found myself laughing out loud at the predicaments he and Kate found themselves in. Their vicious need to beat the other was extremely entertaining!"
