Julia Quinn
Nora Roberts calls Julia Quinn’s novels, “Delightful.” The #1 New York Times bestselling creator of the irresistible Bridgerton family, Quinn offers historical romance readers new delights with A Night Like This—the second book (following the phenomenal Just Like Heaven) to feature the affairs, romantic and melodic, of the endearing, if painfully untalented, Smythe-Smith musicians. On A Night Like This in Regency England, anything can happen, especially when a beautiful pianist sitting in at the annual Smythe-Smith musicale catches the eye of a haunted, hunted man in desperate need of redemption. There is simply no author in the realm of historical romance fiction hotter than the remarkable Julia Quinn—and anyone who has ever been swept away by the love stories of Amanda Quick, Lisa Kleypas, or Jill Barnett will cherish A Night Like This.

"I really enjoyed this! Unlike “just like heaven” (the preceding book to this one) this book has a little bit of everything. There’s mystery and action, and romance right from the get go! Which is quite different than a lot of Julia Quinn’s books, where the romance builds throughout. If you liked Benedict’s book in the Bridgeton series, you will like this book - just as Sophie was in servitude, Anne is too. So if you like that type of plot - love conquers social status - you will like this! Definitely recommend! "
"A bit of insta-love (on the Daniel’s part), a governess, hidden secret identity (on Anne’s part) are all what initially excited me about this book. Where it went down hill for me was that the central drama with Anne’s past, shall we say indiscretion, was just too melodramatic even for me and I love a bit of melodrama. I would take the usual class differences, “oh you couldn’t possibly love and marry me, I’m just a simple working class girl” gambit that is very common in historical romances. However, this one was not as well done as some other books that I have read with the class difference trope. I will continue in the series though because I liked the character Hugh in this one, who is the hero in the next book and a good road trip historical romance is just what this series needs to shake it up a bit."
"They have almost a “love at first sight” thing happening, which is really the only thing that could be paired with such a deep background and plot with the love story. Both characters have very dangerous people from their past that are threatening their current lives and getting in the way of their happiness. It is a beautiful read, could not recommend it more. "
