"There’s quite the debate on the order in which to read this book in the series. I read it 4th (after Heir of Fire). Currently feeling like I should have followed SJMs recommendation and read it 3rd…even though it takes you back in time. While I understand the thought process of reading it chronologically, (putting it 1st) I loved having that glimpse into her backstory once I was invested in her. This book was so good. It is not just 5 short stories, it is 5 stories that are pivotal points for Celaena and explains exactly how she got where she did. I didn’t understand why the first short mattered, but as you read on you realize it was a canon event."
"This was hard to get into coming from ACOTAR. I was expecting more, but I got a slog instead. I had a hard time pushing myself through the book. I have to say the end of the book is where it got interesting. Although I think it would have been better if she insulted the king, it would
have set the story better for the future story. "
"If you're wondering when to read this book! Read it 4th, after heir of fire !!! It's the perfect timing. That way in thenext book she's going to him, so you're even more hyped to read it. I haaate her master this bitch deserve to die the worst death possible, I hope she tricks him into loosing everything. "
"4+ stars : I decided to start TOG with the assassins blade after finishing Acotar so I was having trouble connecting with the characters at first. Needless to say as soon as she made it to the dessert I was fully invested and this book left me gutted. I’m glad I started with it because I would have been lost with TOG and this created an entire background of connection and feelings to the storyline. "
"I was pleasantly surprised to live this prequel to the Throne of Glass series. The characters are lovely and complex. There were several short stories in this prequel to amp you up for the first edition of Throne of Glass and I was happy to have read it. Another great book written by Sarah J. Maas. She never fails me!"
