The Majestic

"I finally got to see Jim Carrey in this great movie on the free TUBI streaming service. I have been waiting to see this movie for awhile, and it absolutely did not disappoint. I have to say this movie was near perfect for me. It revolves around a man who seemingly has the perfect life; he's living his dream as a screenwriter in a prominent 1940s Hollywood studio. Then everything literally comes crashing down. He is falsely accused of a crime, gets into a car accident, and has temporary amnesia. Meanwhile, he is accepted into the small town of Lawson, California as one of its returning sons from the war. I enjoyed everything about this movie except for one thing: the way the only black character was portrayed; downtrodden and living in bad conditions, which did not seem to fit into the overall story. It was very odd. All of the other characters in the movie are genuine and heartfelt, the acting excellently showing how a town grieves for their lost heroes. I enjoyed seeing Jim Carrey, Martin Landau, and a few other seasoned actors round out this great cast. I know it seems strange to type, but this is one of the few movies I have seen Jim Carrey act in that made him seem so genuine and vulnerable, appealing, attractive, and approachable. I would recommend this film very highly."

"I watched this movie with my family, and they loved it! When talking about Jim Carrey's serious roles, people remember "The Truman Show" and maybe "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". This should be up there as well. Is it schmaltzy? Sure. But it's nostalgic and with a worthy theme."
