As America's stock of athletic young men is depleted during World War II, a professional all-female baseball league springs up in the Midwest, funded by publicity-hungry candy maker Walter Harvey. Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson and Kit Keller spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino and grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan on their way to fame.

"God, this movie is just too good! At its core, it’s a film about friendship, sisterhood, feminism and, of course, baseball. As a softball player myself, I was obsessed with it by the end of the first scene. Geena Davis is dynamite throughout and Tom Hanks gives, as always, a tremendous performance. Even Rosie O’Donnell, who I’m not always a fave of, really impresses in this film and I found myself laughing a lot at lines her character Doris says. The real heart of the film is the dynamic between Kit and Dottie. I though they’re push and pull relationship as sisters was extremely realistic. Lastly, all the baseball playing sequences were really well shot and just plain entertaining to watch. Loved everything about this movie and it’s definitely a new comfort fave."

"I thought the movie covered a lot for what it did. I'd heard a lot about throughout my life but never knew what it was actually about. I just assumed it was some other inspirational story about some boys team. I had no idea it was covering the start of the women's league.
I thought the story seemed realistic. It had a lot of characters to cover and I enjoyed it. However, I also felt like I was missing out because there were just so many characters. I wanted to learn more about each of them. Including the two main sisters and they had the most screen time. Yet it was never enough. Basically the movie couldve been longer or removed some irrelevant moments.
It is a good movie, let me just clarify that. One that's intriguing and still felt real. But at the same time I wanted more. Which could be a good thing.
It also managed to shock me quite a few times. I kept thinking the movie would go one way and then it throw a curveball and go another. I guess that is like life so they pulled that part off. Again, it is good but it's not something I'm gonna ever throw on casually.
I both adored the main character and also hated her. Part of me wanted her to be more and do more but she just never did. Like she is an incredible ball player but she's also very passive in many aspects. Thats part of who she is, and it clashed with her sister well. But since I wanted her to stand up for herself it rarely happened. It did make the moments she does stand out more so I'd compliment the director there. Her actions even make sense, but I just wanted more. Plus it didn't help that Kit felt so bland next to her as just a mad jealous younger sister. The ending did help there but still.
Overall, great movie that covered something I had no idea about. So I compliment it there."
