"WILL AND HARPER (2024) is a #poignant and #humorous #documentary that premiered at the #2024 Sundance Film Festival and was just released on #Netflix (9-27-2024). The film follows #WillFerrell and his longtime #SNL-sketch writer friend Harper Steele, who came out as #transgender, as they embark on a #RoadTrip across America. 🚙💨
While this film is enjoyable, it does have a very leisurely pace—perhaps a tad slow for some viewers. However, it remains a #worthy watch, as it's a #heartfelt exploration of #friendship, #identity, and the journey of understanding one another in an ever-changing world.

4.5⭐️ Oh I LOVED this doc! It is filled with raw emotion .. tender and heartrending but genuinely loving and laugh out loud funny at times. Harper’s wells of strength and courage on her lifelong journey are both painful and joyous to witness. I deeply felt her struggles of self acceptance, her vulnerability in reaching a place of authenticity, and also how to present her true self to those she’s close to and to the world at large.
And I felt the purity of Will’s care, love and support. His emotions run the gamut. Not to say it doesn’t get awkward at times. However he opens up rawly and honestly .. to learning and to navigating a new way forward in their relationship. They both do.
This doc shares their literal and transformative journeys and shows us that respect for inner humanity and love without conditions are at the core of their friendship. Along the way they do encounter some curious stares and hostility but Harper has Will to buffer most of the negativity (not all unfortunately). Not every newly transitioned person has a famous, generally beloved friend to do that for them. But every single one deserves to.
🎶 Harper and Will go west
Just a couple old friends
And a couple brand new breasts
They're off to see America
Not sure what they'll find
Open to the open road
Only to be reminded
That a friend is a friend is a friend
Till the end 🎶 ~ Kristen Wiig

"Very heartwarming documentary. It allows you to see a side of Will Ferrell that makes you fall in love with him even more as a human being. It is a story of true friendship, with all its flaws and hardships, but it is real and raw. It was such an impactful watch and overall story, paying homage to the Midwestern transgender communities that grew up surrounded by people who didn't understand them (and still do), but providing hope for the future. It shows that no matter what age you are, it's never too late to allow your truth to be told and become your authentic self. ❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜 (and screw all the haters!)"
"This sweet documentary seems more about a journey of a wonderful friendship than just a trans person’s coming out. It is certainly touching…hilarious at times, poignant at others. It seems to me that Harper (I do love her name) struggles more with a deep-seated depression than just simply a fear of coming out as trans. (The damage some “therapists” can do!!) I loved the scenes where she just played herself and was delighted by the kindness of strangers. Unfortunately, though he had the best intentions, there were times Will Ferrell’s fame was more of an obstacle than a help…however, when he was just Harper’s old buddy, Will, things went better for both of them. Wonderful to see some SNL cameos, and featuring some great music (be sure to stick around for the credits) plus wonderful scenery of the United States. On Netflix. (Not sure what Will Ferrell’s obsession with Dunkin’ Donuts is, but they should have stopped at Krispy Kreme!)"
