Annie is a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan. But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks—advised by his brilliant VP and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor—makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.

"It's a great rendition of the classic musical. They put a great twist on things while still expanding on the characters. The songs are updated as well to remain current and inviting. Not all of them are as great as their predecessors but a few of them i enjoy over the original. Those new songs are so great too. Plus, they even expand on the fact that Annie isn't technically an orphan, she's a foster kid. As in today's world orphans strictly means both parents are dead while foster kid means both parents aren't dead but can't be found or take care of the child. Considering the syntax has changed for orphan in our modern world that attention to detail felt right. The fact that Annie herself is a stickler for it makes everything better.
However, if you truly want to get the most out of this movie you want to know the original story. Whether that's the musical, or having watched the other two adaptations of the musical in movie form (not including the sequel since its a sequel). This isn't to say this movie can't stand on its own. It can. However, there are very subtle undertones and jokes only someone who knows the true story will get and understand. So while you'll still find enjoyment if it's your first Annie exposure, you'd get a better understanding and feel more satisfied Watchung the original first. (I do recommend the original over the older Disney version due to Hannigan's development) watch that before this one and you won't be left out in those moments.
Now for the updates. I love how they modernized the story and the characters. They made it still believable but keeping the heart of the story. Yes we lose the added Great Depression background but it updates that by modernizing it enough it'll last for years to come and still fool people into thinking it's their current present.
Overall a great adaptation that stays true to the heart of the story while expanding it in fun and interesting ways."
"My childhood!!! I wanted to be like Annie so bad yet not at all that it used to conflict me. I would pick and choose, I don’t want to be an orphan yet I wanted to be adopted by rich people (even though I have parents already) and live in that mansion. The remake was done splendidly and it’s a great watch. In my opinion the original is as well, but this was one of the best modern takes I’ve seen on a movie. Im a bit biased though 😅."
"This version of Annie is so good my favorite 100% "
