"A fantastic film! Thoroughly engrossing from start to finish, this is an example of a play adaptation done right in terms of proper translation to cinematic medium. Phenomenal blocking and framing, along with writing as well as stellar performances from all of the main credited cast members (only 4 cast members are credited here, who elevate the material massively), all of whom got deservedly nominated (it is one of only 3 movies to have the entire credited cast nominated, with 1972’s SLEUTH and 1975’s GIVE ‘EM HELL, HARRY! being the others). Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in particular stand out from this cast, and their chemistry is frankly off the charts (such a well deserved Best Actress Oscar win for Taylor, and one of the Top 5 greatest wins in the category IMO). Talk about movie star quality right there! What a phenomenal directorial debut for the legendary Mike Nichols as well, and it’s not a surprise he went on to have a great career as well (he also ended up winning the Directing Oscar the very next year for THE GRADUATE). This is a film everyone should watch, especially for those interested in great acting and well-made filmed play adaptations."
