"This film is phenomenal!!! It is positively breathtaking and exquisite!!! The acting is incredible, and the cinematography is inspiring!!! I truly loved how it stayed true to the classic silent vampire film from the 1920's, yet it breathed a gentle new approach to the classic. It was much bolder and intense, but that aligns with the current times. The gothic vibes throughout the film were lovely, and I could not get over the fact that they did not romanticize the vampire in any way the entire film. The portrayal of vampires in this film was traditional and stuck to the demonic nature surrounding these dark creatures. I can not say enough praises for this spectacular film!!! If you enjoy vampire movies, this is for sure - without a doubt - a must watch movie for you!!! Be warned that it is graphic and not for the faint of heart!!!"
"Robert Eggers' 2024 rendition of Nosferatu breathes new life into the classic vampire narrative, delivering a film that is both visually captivating and deeply unsettling. Staying true to the eerie essence of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent masterpiece, Eggers introduces contemporary nuances that enhance the story's depth and resonance.
Eggers' meticulous attention to period detail is evident throughout the film. The cinematography, characterized by its use of shadows and bleak landscapes, creates an atmosphere of dread that lingers long after the credits roll. The film's deliberate pacing allows for a slow-building tension, though some viewers may find it occasionally sluggish.
While the film has been lauded for its artistic achievements, it has also faced criticism for not fully capturing the intimate horror that made the original so impactful. Some critics argue that, despite its visual prowess, the film maintains a distance that prevents a deeper emotional connection with the audience.
Overall, Eggers' Nosferatu is a commendable homage to its predecessor, offering a visually stunning and thematically rich experience. It stands as a testament to the enduring allure of vampire lore and the timeless nature of cinematic horror."
"Loved the acting, Nicholas Hoult is definitely becoming an actor to watch out for in his new projects! Definitely hope him and Lily Rose Depp take on more darker/gothic roles. She was literally perfect in this. I wasn’t familiar with the initial storyline of Nosferatu, so I wasn’t quite prepared to see the relationship between Orlok and Ellen😅. Still enjoyed it regardless. Also key note, I love the way they built up the scenes involving Orlok. The lighting and music score were amazing, but Bill Sarksgård truly blended everything seamlessly. Overall, a stellar movie and it’s definitely going into my rewatch list!!"
"Genuinely one of the best movies I have ever seen. A true masterpiece of cinematic storytelling. The attention to detail and true passion that went in this film is something truly rare and PHENOMENAL. I will be rewatching this for years and years and YEARS to come. The historical accuracy, true suspense, use of color, parallels, repetition, music, shot composition, and literally EVERYTHING was BEAUTIFUL. Watch it NOW."
"I have seen the past iterations of Nosferatu and Dracula, both film and book! Eggers really made sure that the world was organic in both language, history, costume, ambience, and life. As a Romantic, watching this film was as if you were shallow of breath as well, inside the film, and watching what the characters will do next. To see what was changed, but alas, it stays true to the original adaptation and source material of Dracula- interwining both immaculately. It's heartbreakingly beautiful, haunting, grotesque, graphic, and to a point necrophilic within Victorian standards. My absolute favourite adaptation."
"I was so deeply disappointed by this rendition of the classic film. The many plot holes and confusing plot lines were hard to follow. Although the actors in this film all incredibly talented, I felt their talents were overshadowed by the misogynistic undertones of the film direction. Lily Depp’s character is so grossly over-sexualized. At times it was plain ridiculous. I found myself laughing out loud in a public theater not out of any humor but pure shock. Even the ending scene is draped in the male gaze—the only way the to defeat Nosferatu was by Depp’s character essentially having sex with the demon. It was so clearly written by men and was disgrace to actors talents and the integrity of the original story. "
