In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

"This movie is so much fun! I love the whole message of the big corporations are the real evil …just like real life but unlike real life robocop actually does something about it with the strict moral code said corporation gave him..oh the irony! I love it! Other then all that it’s just good old 80s action fun and is a classic for a reason. Also very quotable. 😂"
"3.5 stars for this action thriller, very disturbing at parts but a must see film!"

"still parsing out how i feel about this one. things i liked: Paul Verhoeven. the very cynical and correct observations that in a capitalist society, corporations see it in their best interests to keep the police in their pocket, and drive up crime rates by intentionally criminalizing poverty and flooding neighborhoods with drugs (that they make money on), then making cops arrest these drug users (creating more revenue). prisons employ slave labor: more money! then hyper-militarizing the police to deal with the societal problems they've created. meanwhile they themselves are immune to the justice system. i liked the dirty 80's aesthetic and the car chases. the people who made robocop aren't interested in the slightest with saving a human being, only interested in the success of the inspector gadget weapon they've made. all that merry-go-round of money could have been used in so many social programs to help, like food banks, halfway housing, addiction services, free healthcare, etc. the stop motion was so cute!!!
things i didn't care for: police unions. there's just a whole lotta cop in this movie and a lot of police brutality from the hero. (like yeah, you were brutally murdered, but that doesn't excuse the level of violence used).
one more thought: the people i'd overheard talking about this film always framed it with such 80's nostalgia, so i assumed it was FOR CHILDREN. cue my extreme surprise when a man gets his face shot off in extreme graphic detail at the start of the movie."
"I almost took off a star for all the "I'll buy that for a dollar" references. I watched it yesterday and I had not seen it in years. I thought it would be more cheesy by today's standards but I rather liked it more than when I first saw it. The robot like movements kept me watching the actor in more wonder than I used to have. I thought the women were mostly portrayed as objects but they did a great job with the portrayal of his female partner. She seems to have gotten a bettee light than other women in the film. Occasionally you might want to watch a revenge story so this movie is a possible lrevenge story. Ya I liked it."
