All that being said I really enjoyed the combat scenes and the fact that Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh have this kind of badass sapphic vibe going on. I think it was just the story that didn't really hook me? The action itself was great."

It's not as hip as an Ocean's movie or as exciting as a Wick flick; but, it definitely is pointing in a similar direction. If you like action films and women there's a lot to like here. The director slows down some moments that Guy Richie would have sped up. Still, the pacing is decent. The plot is a straight line affair, with no surprises. It simply delivers on the trailer's promise."

It lacks the confidence and swagger of Atomic Blonde or The Old Guard and includes some poor directorial choices; but, you've definitely seen worse. I'd be down for a sequel, especially with a better director. If you like action flicks with female leads, this will scratch the itch until the next Blue Moon, though it may insult you if you have strong feminist bones and a short fuse for the male gaze. It's not sexist per se, simply insensitive and a little tone deaf, in a "I know chicks", mansplainy way. [said the Black guy 🤪]"

lyn_degonia shared a tip "Fun, tropey, action packed, but wasn't afraid to make light of the genre. Gunpowder milkshake had the broody protagonist that seems a trademark of the genre. It played emotional scenes fantastically, and had me attached to the characters and rooting for them, even though they weren't technically good guys. It used situational humor, and was fantastic about playing it straight and committing to the bit. The blood was just unrealistic enough, and the action scenes were just campy enough. 10/10"

Tremendous worldbuilding, very interesting characters and superb presentation with costume, light, sound, graphic design all working together to transport you into this world. Unfortunately it doesn't deliver enough on its promises for being such an impressive parade float that by the end you're wondering if maybe a series would have been better."
