"I watched this when I was quite young after I read the play for the first time. I prefer other versions but this was a great way to begin my study of the play as I've reread it many times. "

"We take R&J far too seriously, today. I get why people are into the drama, tragedy, passion + lesson that we should all just get along... but to me it is first and foremost a comedy. Our audience has to try to put themselves in the shoes of those watching it at the time it was written, when people attended executions and bear baiting as entertainment. Look less at passion betwixt 2 star crossed lovers; more at, the absurdity, melodrama, a train-wreck of events leading us to expect a cathartic moment of success for R&J but instead Shakespeare offs 'em!"
