"I kind of gave this movie the power of a doubt when I first watched it because I liked Pain & Glory so much but I do genuinely think I hate this movie. Is this transphobic? I don't know, it's kind of too dumb to be transphobic but it is... weird about gender and non conforming gender at very least least. Like, the only thing that stops me from calling it outright transphobic is how little it actually resembles anything remotely close to a real situation in which case... what are we doing here. I described this movie, when I first watched it, as a rorschach test that reflected people's feelings about gender back to them without saying anything interesting in its own right but even that I think gives this too much credit. It seems more like a guy getting high in a room and going "damn, wouldn't THIS be MESSED UP" and just playing with live ammo."
